Abstract. Kazimoto GK, Nchimbi-Msolla SF, Mabagala RB. 2022. Introgression of anthracnose resistance gene(s) into common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). Cell Biol Dev 6: 20-31. Common disease caused by the fungus Colletotrichum lindemuthianum causes significant yield losses. It is most destructive in areas with cool temperatures and high humidity (90-100%). The study aimed to introduce genes adapted but susceptible local cultivars Masai Red Soya Njano using conventional breeding methods. Five races C. were isolated named from thirty-two bean-diseased plant samples collected Northern Tanzania. sources resistant G2333 AB136. Early developed populations evaluated under field conditions altitude humid environments at Bashnet Manyara region, highlands Both F2 F3 x segregated for a 9:7 ratio. Such segregation implied that two dominant epistatic conferred G2333, being mode gene interaction. crosses between ratio was 10:6, implying transferred populations. progenies obtained crossing AB136 showed 3:1. cross 3:1 confirmed single inheritance progenies. heritability (h²) 0.41 0.45. While Njano, Red, A136 0.2 0.53, which moderate heritability. need further testing MAS confirm presence genes. Multi-location should be done verify levels population later generations.

New Insights into the Anthracnose Resistance of Common Bean Landrace

The common bean landrace G 2333 carries a three gene pyramid for anthracnose resistance: Co-4 2 , Co-5 and Co-7. The Co-4 2 gene is well characterized but less information is available on Co-5 and Co-7. The objectives of this study were to determine if a new allele of Co-5 is present in G 2333; to characterize the spectrum of resistance conditioned by the Co-7 gene by deriving lines which only ...

Are duplicated genes responsible for anthracnose resistance in common bean?

The race 65 of Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, etiologic agent of anthracnose in common bean, is distributed worldwide, having great importance in breeding programs for anthracnose resistance. Several resistance alleles have been identified promoting resistance to this race. However, the variability that has been detected within race has made it difficult to obtain cultivars with durable resista...

Gene/QTL discovery for Anthracnose in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) from North-western Himalayas

Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is one of the most important grain legume crops in the world. The beans grown in north-western Himalayas possess huge diversity for seed color, shape and size but are mostly susceptible to Anthracnose disease caused by seed born fungus Colletotrichum lindemuthianum. Dozens of QTLs/genes have been already identified for this disease in common bean world-wide. ...

Mapping and Genetic Structure Analysis of the Anthracnose Resistance Locus Co-1HY in the Common Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

Anthracnose is a destructive disease of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). The Andean cultivar Hongyundou has been demonstrated to possess strong resistance to anthracnose race 81. To study the genetics of this resistance, the Hongyundou cultivar was crossed with a susceptible genotype Jingdou. Segregation of resistance for race 81 was assessed in the F2 population and F2:3 lines under co...

Genome-Wide Association Studies of Anthracnose and Angular Leaf Spot Resistance in Common Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.).

The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is the world's most important legume for human consumption. Anthracnose (ANT; Colletotrichum lindemuthianum) and angular leaf spot (ALS; Pseudocercospora griseola) are complex diseases that cause major yield losses in common bean. Depending on the cultivar and environmental conditions, anthracnose and angular leaf spot infections can reduce crop yield dra...
